Let it snow! The local Atlanta government opens its doors to the homeless

Atlanta is a city that is known for its hot summers and mild winters. The past several months, however, have coated the city in snow several times. Temperatures dropped to 16 degrees as the city turned into an icy winter wonderland. While many citizens of Atlanta were enjoying their days off by the fire, the homeless community was on the streets battling the brutal weather and trying to survive the storm.

George Chidi with Central Atlanta Progress stated that "Anyone who wants to get warm, there is space for them. We can accommodate every single person." Central Atlanta Progress also partnered with the ride sharing application Lyft, to help transfer the homeless to these warming shelters. Theses warming centers have helped many homeless during the extreme weather conditions that Atlanta has faced recently, however, they were only a temporary fix to a greater problem.

Once the weather has passed, the homeless were essentially back on the street indefinitely. GIVE YO SELF aims to help during these hard winter months by having a holiday pop up that donates winter clothes, blankets, and money to the homeless and local shelters.
